Marilyn Dalrymple, co-compiler of “It’s Tough Growing Up: Children’s Stories of Courage,” will be attending the yearly Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators Schmooze coordinators’ meeting at The Huntington Library. It’s a chance to discuss the children’s books industry and learn what’s new and what’s happening.

“If you don’t want to know about it, its not going to go away.” – Sue Strom adviser to the Teen Builders club at AV High School on the subject of AIDS.
October 16th marked the 8th annual AIDS Walk AV, which was organized by the Teen Builders club. Club members and members of the community, including most of the local cast of RENT, participated in the event walking from AV High School along Avenue I in Lancaster to the corner of Sierra Highway and Lancaster Blvd. The two primary purposes of AIDS Walk AV is to educate people about the impact of AIDS and to raise money for the medical treatment of those suffering from AIDS.

Several Sponsors also came out to support the event. Valencia Pharmacy, the Catalyst Foundation, Charter College and First City Credit Union as well as many other local businesses lent their support to the cause. The Catalyst Foundation also offered free oral HIV testing while Charter College offered free massages to everyone who participated by walking in AIDS Walk AV.
