Palmdale’s East Side Welcomes New Panera Bread

Palmdale’s East Side Welcomes New Panera Bread

PALMDALE – Palmdale’s east side welcome its latest addition to its growing list of  business with a grand opening and “bread breaking” ceremony for Panera Bread, located at 38029-C 47th Street East, in Palmdale, in the Palmdale Gateway Shopping Center.

Panera Bread District Manager Jacob Bustos and Store General Manager Raquel Hernandez welcomed a crowd of customers, local Palmdale Chamber and Antelope Valley Chamber members, City of Palmdale officials, representatives from Assemblyman Steve Knight’s office and Panera staff to the official opening.  As is a tradition with Panera Bread openings, Mayor Jim Ledford was invited to break a symbolic first loaf of bread to commemorate the event.

“As an east side resident, I can’t say enough how pleased I am to have Panera Bread so close to home,” Ledford said. “This is a continuation of what has been building momentum in East Palmdale.  We have a vibrant shopping corridor that our east side residents, as well as those who live in Littlerock, Pearblossom and surrounding areas, can easily access and enjoy.”

Other businesses located in the Palmdale Gateway center are Super Target, It’s a Grind, El Pollo Loco, Ross, Bath and Body, Home Depot, Bank of America, Burger King, Petsmart, Styles for Less, Staples, Game Stop, Gateway Dental Group, Red Persimmon Nails & Spa, Freeway Insurance, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Famous Footware.

Panera Bread’s business hours are:  Monday through Saturday from 6 am to 9 pm and Sunday from 7 am to 8 pm. With its identity rooted in handcrafted, fresh-baked, artisan bread, Panera Bread is committed to providing great tasting, quality food that people can trust. Highlighted by antibiotic free chicken, whole grain bread, select organic and all-natural ingredients and a menu with 0 grams artificial trans fat per serving, Panera’s bakery-cafe selection offers flavorful, wholesome offerings. The menu includes a wide variety of year-round favorites, complemented by new items introduced seasonally with the goal of creating new standards in everyday food choices. Guests will enjoy Panera’s warm and welcoming environment featuring comfortable gathering areas, relaxing decor, and free internet access provided through a managed WiFi network. At the close of each day, Panera Bread bakery-cafes donate bread and baked goods to community organizations in need.

  • Craft Beer

  • Giannini presents 13 Craft Beers on Tap

    GBG our Signature Pilsner

Made with two-row malted barley, European Saaz hops, pure artesian spring water and a proprietary strain of yeast. This

lager is a crisp golden beer that appeals to drinkers of all types.  Brewed in the American style, but with a fulliness missing

from the mass-produced beers. A great balance of malts and hops gives this beer a gentle drinkability.

    Blonde Ale by Mission Brewery

Our Blonde Ale is a crisp and refreshing golden ale.  Modeled after the kolshch-style ales from Cologne, Germany.  It has a

clean lager-like character, and a smooth balanced bitterness.

The kolsch yeast strain provides a subtle fruitiness, which compliments the Liberty and Hallertau hops used for flavor and

    aroma.

    Drifter by Widmer Bros

American Pale Ale brewed with generous amounts of Summit hops, it has a unique citrus character,

Smooth drink ability, and distinctive hop character.  The bittering hops are perceptible enough to give the beer a crisp, clean,

quenching finish, yet soft enough to keep the beer by Michelob smooth and balanced.

    Shock Top

Shock Top is an unfiltered Belgian-style wheat ale (also known as a “White” or “Wit” beer due to its appearance) that is

naturally cloudy with a billowy white foam head, light golden hue and slight taste of orange peel and coriander.

Hop Ottin’ IPA by Anderson Valley Brewing

Hop Ottin is Boontling for “hardworking hops” and they’re surely hard at work in this brew.  Hop Ottin starts with a strong

floral aroma, which winds into a deep and complex body.  In an intriguing balance, honey-drenched malts coat rich hop

undertones.  The hops prevail with a satisfyingly crisp finish.

    Haywire Hefewiezen by Pyramid Brewing

This American-Style Hefeweizen (wheat beer) is an award-winning take on this Bavarian classic.

This refreshingly unfiltered wheat ale delivers a distinctively smooth and refreshing flavor.

Smashwords to Supply Ebooks to the Amazon Kindle Store

Smashwords Authors and Publishers from around the World Gain Greater Distribution for their Ebooks

LOS GATOS, Calif., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ — Smashwords, a global publisher and distributor of independently published ebooks, today announced it will supply ebooks to the Amazon.com Kindle Store. Kindle is Amazon’s wireless reading device that allows customers to downloads books, blogs, magazines and newspapers to a crisp, high-resolution electronic paper display that looks and reads like real paper.

Smashwords‘ decision to distribute ebooks to the Kindle Store follows recent Smashwords agreements with Barnes & Noble, Sony and Shortcovers. The relationships further democratize access to distribution for the world’s independent authors and publishers.

Smashwords makes it free and easy for any author or publisher, anywhere in the world, to publish and distribute an ebook,” said Mark Coker, founder of Smashwords. “By providing our ebooks to the Kindle store, Kindle customers can conveniently discover, sample and purchase thousands of ebooks from Smashwords authors and publishers.”

Smashwords currently publishes and distributes over 4,800 original ebooks from 2,200 independent authors and approximately 80 small independent publishers. The service launched in May 2008 with a focus on self-published authors, and then in May 2009 expanded its offerings to support publishers as well. The new Smashwords distribution agreements enable free and immediate worldwide distribution for thousands of ebook authors and small publishers.

A growing number of Smashwords authors are previously published professional authors with reverted rights who use Smashwords to bring their out-of-print books back to life as ebooks.

    Availability, Smashwords Author/Publisher Terms

Smashwords will begin shipping ebooks to Amazon starting November 25. Smashwords expects the books to begin appearing in the Kindle store some time in December.

Smashwords will pay authors and publishers 42.5 percent of the digital list price (set by the author) for book sales through Amazon. The rate is higher than what many ebook authors can receive on their own if they publish direct with Amazon.

The royalty Smashwords pays authors and publishers for their Amazon ebook sales is eight times the royalty rate most commercially published print authors earn on mass market paperbacks, and nearly triple the standard royalty on hard cover books.

Smashwords authors and publishers who already distribute ebooks to the Amazon Kindle Store can easily opt-out of the Smashwords-Amazon channel in advance of the November 25 ship date via their Smashwords Dashboard.

Smashwords will ship ebooks to Amazon that have gained inclusion in the Smashwords Premium Catalog. The Premium Catalog comprises 2,500 Smashwords titles that meet certain mechanical requirements, as outlined on the Smashwords Distribution Information page at http://www.smashwords.com/distribution. There is no cost to authors to publish and distribute through Smashwords.

To distribute via Smashwords, authors and publishers simply format their finished manuscript per the requirements of the Smashwords Style Guide found at http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/52 and then upload the book as a Microsoft Word document. Wedding Budget: 30 Ways to Save Money on Your Wedding

We get it: Weddings are expensive. But you can cut costs without anyone missing, well, what’s missing.

    Photo: Veer

    Reception

    1. Cut the guest list. This will slash your catering costs and save on invitations and even the number of centerpieces.

    2. Think off-peak season and save thousands!

    3. Hold your ceremony and reception in one spot — it will cut travel time for vendors you pay by the hour.

    4. Skip the Saturday wedding.

    5. Have bigger tables so you need fewer centerpieces and tablecloths.

    6. Shop the off-season for extra decor — get modern black vases on sale after Halloween and pretty pink ones after Valentine’s Day.

    Flowers

    7. Use more greenery than flowers.

    8. Swap out costly flowers — did you know peonies can be five times more expensive than roses?

    9. Stick to just one or two kinds of flowers.

    10. Buy flowers that are in season.

    11. Include non-florals, like lanterns.

    Food & Drink

    12. Serve entree duets.

    13. Skip the main course — apps and drinks are fine too.

    14. Offer beer, wine, and a signature cocktail instead of a full bar.

    15. Serve comfort foods like barbecue chicken, mac and cheese, and corn. It’s fun and often cheaper.

    16. Skip the champagne toast.

    Cakes

    17. Order a small one or two-tiered cake and then supplement cake with a larger sheet cake (hidden back in the kitchen).

    18. Keep the add-ons simple.

    19. Use fresh flowers, not sugar ones.

    20. Reuse ceremony flowers for the cake table.

    21. Skip exotic fillings like guava and mango.

    Stationery & Favors

    22. Get single-page invites to save on postage.

    23. Give out one favor per couple.

    24. Make your cake the favors.

    25. Have favors double as escort cards.

    26. Email your save-the-dates.

    27. Make your own menu cardsescort cards, and wedding favor packaging.

    Photo, Video & Music

    28. Have a photographer you love but can’t afford the prices? Ask them if they have an associate shooter who will do your wedding for less.

    29. Opt for a smaller band.

    30. Hire a band or DJ who can do both the ceremony and the reception.

Super Bowl XLV Media Day: 2 Great QBs, 2 Great 3-4s

    By

    Derek Crouse

    (Contributor) on February 1, 2011

The Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers will face off at the new Cowboy Stadium February 6th at 5:30ET in Superbowl XLV.

Both teams have a national fanbase that stretches coast to coast. Steelers’ fans are known around the country as the best traveling fans in the NFL.

From Aaron Rodgers to Ben Roethlisberger and two potent defenses, this game has everything a football fan wants from a Super Bowl.

The Packers have been on a tear. They went on the road to face the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, and Chicago Bears and won every game convincingly.

While the Packers were a favorite early in the season, injuries came often this year and team had to adapt to new personnel.

They had to win games late in the season just to get a shot at the playoffs. They’ve shown character overcoming the obstacles of the season whether it is losing players or the multiple concussions for Aaron Rodgers.

The Steelers started the season with controversy. Ben Roethlisberger was suspended by league for being accused of another sexual assault.

This wasn’t the first time Big Ben’s reckless behavior became a PR nightmare, so Roger Goodell decided a 4-game suspension was the punishment. The Steelers held their own without Big Ben going 3-1 with the only loss coming from the Baltimore Ravens.

108694574_crop_340x234Will this be the first of many media days for Rodgers?
    Scott Halleran/Getty Images

With the Cinncinati Bengals hitting rock bottom again, the Steelers capitalized and came away with the division and reached the Super Bowl beating the Ravens in a close battle and destroying the Jets early in the AFC Championship.

Aaron Rodgers is quickly becoming on of the top quarterbacks in the league.

In a tiny town where the quarterback is worshipped, he has taken all the pressure effortlessly. When Brett Favre isn’t mentioned during a NFC Championship game, it shows Rodgers is finally starting to get out of Favre’s shadow.

He has the most talented receiving nucleus in the NFL. He is cerebral against the blitz, which will come into play with Dick LeBeau’s exotic 3-4 defense who loves to bring pressure from blitzes, zone coverages, and overloading the line.

On and off the field, Ben Roethlisberger is reckless. While some would think of being reckless as a bad trait that isn’t the case when it comes to him.

On 3rd downs when it looks like Ben is going to be taken down in the backfield, he moves out of the pocket and finds an open man when the play breaks down.

He doesn’t put up the gaudy numbers that Aaron Rodgers does, but its effective in the Steelers offense.

On multiple occasions, Ben made plays to win games where all hope was lost. Clutch play isn’t a statistic, but if it was he would be one of the league leaders.

The Packer 3-4 defense, led by defensive coordinator Dom Capers, runs a version of the Steelers 3-4 that is coordinated by the respected Dick LeBeau.

Both teams have linebackers that are fast and physical.

In Green Bay, Defensive Player of the Year runner-up, Clay Matthews has improved by leaps and bound since he was drafted out of USC. He puts so much pressure on the edge and still can take on a left tackle if the coverage calls for it.

James Harrison has been a target for the league looking to hand out fines (over $100,000) for hard hits. What many see is one of the best at the position playing with physicality and explosiveness.

Both of these players have to be accounted for on every down; their versatility makes them dangerous.

Super Bowl XLV is going to be played on a fast track. Like Drew Brees, Rodgers is very effective on turf. That could be seen against Atlanta. It might not matter if the Steelers put a big hit on Rodgers.

With that hit from Julius Peppers in the NFC Championship, many think he might have suffered a slight concussion but the Jay Cutler injury became the story and the lack of medical staff looking at Rodgers went unnoticed.

Multiple concussions are a catalyst to getting more in a short period of time. If Harrison wants to get a fine that is worth the money, putting a hard hit on Rodgers could take the Steelers to the Promised Land.

Look for the Rodgers to beat the Steelers blitz, but if the Steelers can get the lead and use the run game, they will come out on top.

BMW Four-Cylinder Engines Return To U.S.

    retrobmwspares.com
Many people remember the popular four-cylinder 320i of the late 1970s and early 1980s. It helped turn the once-obscure BMW into a household term in the U.S.

BMW AG says it will bring a four-cylinder automobile engine to the U.S. market later this year. While BMW sells several four-cylinder motorcycles here, it hasn’t had a “four-banger” in its car lineup since 1999.

The move marks a big change in BMW’s marketing approach in the States. For years the German car maker’s executives said offering fours would be a waste because American drivers want the power and torque available only from larger engines with six or more cylinders. Even the compact BMW 1 Series came with a choice of two sixes when it rolled out about three years ago. The same car typically sells with four cylinders in other global markets.

Now, though, as fuel efficiency grows in importance to consumers many car companies are promoting their smaller engines where they used to largely ignore them. Ford says it will soon offer its new Explorer crossover with a four-cylinder engine while Chevrolet and Buick have also been pushing fours in certain models. Other rivals from Audi to Hyundai are touting their fours for performance as well as economy.

The new 2-liter BMW engine uses turbocharging and a high-pressure direct-injection fuel system to boost power to 240 horsepower, which is more than the company’s base 3-liter six puts out. BMW says it will reveal exactly when the engine will arrive and on which model or models at a later date.

For people who fell in love with BMWs during the 1960s and 1970s, chances are the object of their affection was a 1600, 2002 or 320i model with a screaming 1.6, 1.8 or 2-liter four-cylinder engine. I learned to drive on my mother’s 1979 320i and later owned a 1972 2002, so the BMW fours are dearest to my heart. Sure, it is hard to find fault with the smooth, locomotive pull of the Bimmer straight six, but it always seemed like overkill in smaller cars like the 3 Series and 1 Series.

The slideshow includes some favorite fours from BMW’s past.
