DryTown Extends Hours Due to Demand

PALMDALE – Due to popular demand, DryTown Water Park, located at 3850 E. Ave. S in Palmdale, is changing its hours of operation to remain open later in the evening for two weeks during August.  The Antelope Valley’s only water park will be open Monday through Friday, 1 to 8 pm, during the weeks of August 8 through 12 and August 15 through 19.

“We highly value the input we receive from our customers, and we had many who asked us to stay open later in the evening,” said DryTown Manager Eric Dombrowski. “We heard you loud and clear, and we’re thrilled that we’ll be staying open until 8 pm during the week to make the DryTown experience even more fun for everyone!” 

Dry Town will be open from 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday, Aug. 16 and 20 and Sunday, Aug. 14 and 21.  After Aug. 21, the park will be open weekends only through Sept. 25 from 11 am to 6 pm.

Tickets and season passes are available online at www.cityofpalmdale.org/drytown, or at DryTown Water Park during normal operating hours.

Day use tickets are $13 for residents and $16 for non-residents ages 9 and above; $8 for residents and $11 for non-residents ages 3 to 8.  Children under 2 are free.  Day use tickets for Seniors 62 and over are $8 for residents and $11 for non-residents. Members of the military may purchase day use tickets for $11 and tickets for military family members ages 3 to 8 are $6.

 Season passes are also available for $56 for Palmdale residents and $67 for non-residents. Family 4-Packs are available for $189 for Palmdale residents and $229 for non-residents.

A special Twilight Rate is offered Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 6 pm through August 5, and 5:3 to 8 pm August 8 through 12 and August 15 through 19. Twilight tickets are $10 for residents and $13 for non-residents ages 9 and above; $6 for residents and $9 for non-residents ages 3 to 8 and seniors 62 years and over; $8 for members of the military.

DryTown season pass holders also receive two free admissions to Wild Rivers Waterpark in Irvine for the 2011 season, are eligible for half off fountain drinks, limeades, iced teas and classic slushes at Sonic Drive-In Restaurant, and receive free admission to ‘Sundown at DryTown’ events.“

The final “Sundown at DryTown” event will be held this Friday, Aug. 5 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Tickets for “Sundown at DryTown” are $7 for ages 9 and up, $5 for ages 3 through 8. Tickets may be purchased at the admission window on the day of each event.

DryTown is available for group activities or private rentals. Youth groups, teams, companies, family reunions, church groups, schools, fundraisers, organizations, camps and more can take advantage of our special group rates.

BACKGROUND:     Thursday Night on the Square, a series of summer events presented by the City of Palmdale, provides the community with free children’s activities, free live music, food vendors, and an open-air market. Weekly entertainment includes live music in the gazebo until 9 pm, sponsored by Valleywide Dental; Barnes & Noble Storytelling at 6:30 pm; and the new interactive show, Camp TNOTS, at 7:30 pm, sponsored by High Desert Medical Group.  Free children’s activities include the all-new Game Garden featuring a variety of games, and the Children’s Art & Activity Center (for children age 12 and under).  Each week, one lucky person caught “green-handed” – disposing of recyclable waste in the proper container – will win a solar-powered backpack capable of charging an mp3 player, cell phone, camera or laptop, courtesy of Waste Management.

          • Pets are not permitted.  Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and alcohol is not allowed.

Housing Rights Clinic Set for Aug. 18 in Palmdale

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale and the Housing Rights Center will host a free walk-in housing rights clinic on Thursday, Aug. 18 from 1 to 4 pm in the City of Palmdale’s development services building, 38250 Sierra Highway. Housing rights clinics are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month in Palmdale.

The clinics provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions and receive answers about fair housing, rent increases, repairs and more.

The Housing Rights Center is a nonprofit agency that works to help provide equal housing access to all residents in the communities it serves. The Center assists homebuyers, tenants and housing professionals with free counseling services on fair housing law, public education seminars on housing discrimination and housing discrimination complaint investigation.

SAVES Accepting Applications, Donations for Back-to-School Program

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) is accepting applications and donations for its annual Back-to-School program.

“Each year, SAVES distributes hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies to South Antelope Valley students who are in need of these materials for their studies,” said SAVES Coordinator Patricia Morales. “We are encouraging residents to help us provide these much-needed items by making donations in the form of supplies or monetary contributions.”

School supplies that are needed include backpacks, pencil boxes, calculators, erasable pens, dictionaries, three ring binders, notebook paper, erasers, staplers, graph paper, and flash drives.

“If anyone would prefer to make a monetary donation, they may do so by making their check payable to the Palmdale Community Foundation with ‘SAVES’ noted on the memo line,” Morales said.

Supply and monetary donations may be brought to SAVES, located at 37925 Sierra Highway, Suite H, in Palmdale.

Residents in need of school supplies for their students may apply for the program by filling out an application at the SAVES office by July 30. SAVES will supply new backpacks with grade appropriate school supplies to all school age children whose families qualify for the program.

To qualify for the Back-to-School program, residents must be a current SAVES client. To become a SAVES client, residents must:

    ·       Show current proof of income within the past 30 days for each member in household.

    ·       Provide proof of address.   (A current gas or electric bill in the name of the adults living in household or a rental/lease agreement).

    ·       Show proof of adults in household. (Valid picture and social security card).

    ·       Show proof of a minor in the household. (Birth certificate, Medi-Cal card or school picture ID).

    ·       Have a child enrolled in grades K-12 in either the Palmdale, Keppel or Westside Union school districts.

    ·       Live in the South Antelope Valley.

Distribution of backpacks will take place in August and continue until supplies are depleted.  Applications will be processed on a first come basis.
