Gallery 839 at The Animation Guild

On Friday night, my husband and I went to an art show at this wonderful gallery in Burbank. It featured work by 4 artists: Michael Cedeno, John Cataldi, Danielle Powers, and Russell Calabrese.

I am proud to say, I bought a Cedeno to add to my always growing art collection. I love this man’s work. He is truly one of my favorites. The woman below is gorgeous, don’t you think? I love her pose and gracefulness. I love the pencil

or rather, charcoal strokes. Michael has a real command of his abilities. Being that he has been a supervising directing animator and had worked at Disney for 27 years, this piece makes me think of Tinkerbell, in the nude! Something about her face makes me think that. Of course, most guys probably aren’t looking at her face. HA!  I look at all parts of this beautiful woman and it actually makes me feel younger. I love the shape, curves, and even the stretching makes me FEEL.

If money were no object, I would have walked out owning a whole wall of his works. Another I loved was this : the Colorado St. Bridge. I spent a large part of my youth riding over this bridge, with my father. We would be going to the one and only Standard Brands in those days. I loved going there with him.

In my childhood, we would always go to Pasadena from Eagle Rock to shop at various places. This evokes memories of that.

I do, however, own a painting of this same fantastic bridge done by Ken Kaylor. He’s another of those extremely talented artists that I know. In fact, Ken and Mike are the best of buddies and go painting together when they can.

It was a fun time with fun people. If you have the chance, you should go. The show runs  through Sept.30th.

We are happy this is ours!

Ken Kaylor, Michael Cedeno, Dennis Calaba.

We had the best time with everyone!

Moonlight Hiking

If you like to hike in the hills, then this is for you ! The Devil’s Punchbowl has a monthly guided hike, totally by moonlight ! It is beautiful to participate in this. You meet up there by 8:PM with good hiking shoes and a good dose of energy. Then, Jonathan and/ or Dave will lead whoever gathers on a wonderful walk on a wonderful trail. No flashlights allowed ! I’ve done this more than once and it is something worth doing.

I was driving home last night from and admiring the full moon and thought of my hikes up there. Once a month, on the Saturday closest to the full moon, this fun event happens, weather permitting. Check out their website and mark your calender if you want something new and different to do. I recommend it ! The Numer family have been the caretakers of this gorgeous 1310 acre park for many years and it is truly a place to behold.

Treating OTHERS as YOU would like to be treated.

Just thinking about the strife and tribulation that goes on among people that I know and it makes me sad. Hence, this blog…. The title above is really the ONLY way to live your life and if you live it that way, gee, a lot of unhappiness goes away. And happiness will come your way, in many ways. If only the people that really need to HEED this, would, life would be so much more simpler and enjoyable!!

We all know people that love to “stir the pot”, create trouble and turmoil, and others are actually happier being mad about something. Some of those individuals I have eliminated from my life to bring more peace to myself and my family. Some I can’t eliminate. To those, I wish peace and harmony within themselves. I rise above their unhappiness and hope that one day, they “see the light”.

A Surprise Advantage of Socialnomics

The other day I received a phone call from someone, whom I did not know, looking for a friend of mine – Jim Seargeant.  He said he has been looking for him all over the internet and couldn’t find him. He said the only way he could find him was through my postings of him on my site! Through ilivetoday, amazingly enough!  He gave me his # and asked me to give it to Jim. He wants Jim to do some custom woodwork for him, has had him do some in the past and wants more done. He didn’t have Jim’s current cell phone number.

I called Jim and he was tickled I had another job lined up for him! Only through ilivetoday and Jim Greenleaf did this happen. It proved the power of having a great internet presence and “cloud”.

The Graphic Experience now has a HUGE “cloud”, with the sun shining right through! It’s going to become even bigger and brighter!!

It’s been an amazing learning journey, this whole social networking journey. It has great power and great advantages. Through daily postings, tweets, blogging,”liking” ,”commenting”, and posting photos and videos, my “cloud” has grown! I’ve made new friends, become better friends with the ones I already had, found old friends,  and have become even more aware of how people are inherently GOOD people ( at least the ones I surround myself with !) in cyberspace and otherwise. The world has become even more accessible! I can visit the Eiffel Tower, chat with friends on the East Coast or in Europe (in “real” time), listen to great musicians, all with the stroke of a key.  I truly enjoy this “New World”.

Donating Blood !

On my soapbox again! If it’s not about some great musician, art, or cleaning up the desert, it’s going to be about something VERY IMPORTANT -giving blood !! There is ALWAYS a critical shortage of blood. Only about 15% of the population give blood, even less than that give REGULARLY. If you are able, please do it. I donate at the Antelope Valley Hospital at their blood donor center every 56 days. It is a lovely facility with the nicest people that run it. The nurses are all fabulous and treat everyone with the utmost kindness. The benefit of giving at A.V. Hospital is that the blood stays here in the Antelope Valley and is used to treat local citizens first. I personally have given over 12 gallons of blood, one pint at a time.

Blood cannot be manufactured, only drawn out of people that are willing to give it. Then, it is processed and filtered and all those other things they do before it is used to SAVE LIVES. You would be surprised at the medications that you can be taking and still give blood, so don’t let the thinking of ” Well, I take this and that so I can’t give blood” stop you ! A simple phone call to the center (949-5622) and they will tell you if you are able. Of course, there are restrictions and you can find out those too. They are open Tues & Thurs. 9 am to 6 pm, Wed 7 am to 4pm, 1st and 3rd Sat of every month 8 am to 1 pm.
The whole process takes about an hour out of your busy day. Think of all the people you can help in this simple way.

Feeling Blessed !

I haven’t written a blog for some time now and I don’t know if anyone would even be interested in reading this BUT- here goes….
My life is so rich and blessed in many ways, most of all being surrounded by talented and great people. From my family members, my artist friends, my musician friends, and just the many friends and great people that have come into my life over the years. How did I get so LUCKY ?
I am lucky to have found the right guy that I know I will be spending the rest of my life with.
I am lucky to have two great kids that have grown into wonderful people, respectful and fun loving !
I am lucky to be surrounded by beautiful art every day here in the Graphic Experience.

I am lucky to be able to go on daily sunrise hikes on the Lovejoy Buttes.
I am lucky to love the animals I have and have had in the past.
I am lucky that certain individuals (you know who are ! ) are in my daily life.

I could go on with many more, but it would get boring to you all. My main point, I guess, is this:
