What’s going O.N. with Improv in the AV?

In the Antelope Valley, there is a large theatre and acting community, and included in the art of acting, there’s improvisation acting, or better known as Improv. One group that is outstanding right now is the group O.N. Improv.

Improv is the practice of acting, singing, talking and reacting, of  creating, in the moment actions. Basically, everything is made up on the spot in response to the connection to one or more people involved with the group.

O.N. Improv started in 2009 and was founded by Chris Murphy, as it states on their facebook page, He formed the Improv Club under a local theater group withMelissa Martin.  He is no longer involved with the group, but new  faces have come to join the stage along the way  including Andrew PariAnthony MooreShannon HayRoy Ellison, Casey Hills, Jeff Maki, Wesley King, and Mike Geriarte. Together these fine young men and women collaborate together and meet each week inside the walls of  Lancaster’s Cedar Center to practice and enhance their skills as actors and comedians alike. Every first Wednesday of the month,  The members of O.N Improv put their talent to work for the public’s entertainment at Butler’s Coffee House in Palmdale where they enthrall the ever-growing crowd of supporters in the theatre world.

If you would like more information about joining Improv, or would just like to see more what they are about,

you may contact Melissa at onimprov@yahoo.com and make sure you check out the monthly shows at Butler’s Coffee if you get the opportunity! Their next show will be  Wednesday August 3rd. Show starts at 7pm, so don’t be late!

Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale…on the BLVD

661.942.1103

What a great day on the BLVD.

Today is day one of Team Good Life Bakers – Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale.

100_1148-1

The event is Thursday July 14th from noon to 6pm, and Saturday July 16th from noon to 4pm. The bake sale is to raise money for this great organization; whos’ mission it is to end childhood hunger in America by 2015.

Chef Clark Tonkin works two jobs here in the AV…afterwhich…around midnight he has been baking. He has been baking for weeks!

One of the best kept secrets in the entire Antelope Valley is the JP Eliopulos Hellenic Center. This ultra plush facility not only has the beautiful grounds, and interior (think Belagio Hotel in Las Vegas plush)… within 100 miles. It also has a huge, state of the art commercial kitchen.

Hellenic Center Interior. This seats up to 325 guests for weddings receptions, corporate meeting, etc…

Clark has been making dough, perfecting grenache, baking cakes, cookies, lemon bars, dipping all sorts of items in chocolate, and making the most decadent fresh strawberry butter cream frosting.

I bought a dozen cupcakes for the staff at Aven’s.

They were gone in minutes.

City of Lancaster Goes Online with Business License Renewals

The City of Lancaster now offers business license renewal capabilities on its website.  As the City continues to expand its green initiatives while maximizing customer convenience options, one more avenue is provided to make doing business in Lancaster a breeze.

“This new feature enables existing business owners to renew their business licenses online,” stated Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “Many people now pay their bills from the comfort of their home via the internet, reducing the time and energy they spend on a necessary task.  We’re glad to offer this convenient option to our citizens as well.”

Business owners will continue to receive their renewal notices in the mail.  However, the paper bills will provide information on how the process to renew a business license and pay the fees due can be completed by visiting the City’s website at www.cityoflancasterca.org.  Once at the site, proceed to “I Want To… Renew a Business License” or “Finance Department… Renew a Business License” and click on the link provided.  Two pieces of information are required to complete the process online: 1) the business license account number and 2) the four-digit pin number (which is located on the paper renewal notice near the summary of charges at the top of the page).  If this information has been lost or misplaced, the City of Lancaster Finance Department can be contacted at (661) 723-6237 for further assistance.

The business license online renewal system accepts both full and partial payments.  Please note that although partial payments are allowed, business license certificates will not be issued until accounts are paid in full.  Certificates are printed and mailed every Friday for all (paid in full) payments received by the previous Thursday.  The online payment option is not available for renewing the following types of businesses: massage, group home, taxi or tow service.  These businesses are excluded because they require additional steps for renewal processing, such as fingerprinting and background checks.

For additional information regarding utilizing the online business license renewal feature or to learn how to obtain a business license, please call the City of Lancaster Finance Department at (661) 723-6237.
