Mayor R. Rex Parris names Kelsea Hundtoft Athlete of the Month for December

Lancaster, CA. 12/22/2010 – Kelsea Hundtoft was recognized as the City of Lancaster’s Athlete of the Month by Mayor R. Rex Parris at the December 14th City Council meeting. Hundtoft, a senior outside hitter for the Lancaster High School volleyball team, led the Eagles to a 25 – 4 record this season, a share of the Golden League championship, and a quarterfinal appearance in the CIF playoffs.

“It is truly wonderful to be able to recognize such an outstanding student,” said Mayor Parris. “I am continually amazed at the caliber of youth in our valley.”

Hundtoft finished the season with a team high 288 kills and also contributed 26 digs and 7 blocks while being voted Offensive Player of the Year by the team. She was named to the First Team all-Golden League and First Team all-Valley by the AV Press in 2009 and 2010 as well as being named to the all-Tournament team at the Sylmar tournament in both 2009 and 2010. Kelsea was also the Most Valuable Player at the Flintridge Prep camp in both 2007 and 2009.

Hundtoft maintains a 4.0 academic average and was a scholar athlete both in 2008 and 2009, receiving an Academic Bar from Lancaster High School. As for her future plans, Hundtoft has been in contact with Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Tech, Cal State Los Angeles, and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. She intends to major in Civil Engineering.

In addition to her athletic and academic accomplishments, Hundtoft also volunteers at the Lancaster library and at the Flintridge Prep Volleyball camp.
