First Minor League Baseball Stadium in California to go Solar

Lancaster.jpg (429×288)

http://ilivetoday.com “The entire Lancaster community has embraced the city’s mission to become the alternative energy capitol of the world, and as the first minor league team in California to go solar, we’re happy to do our part,” said Peter Carfagna, JetHawks owner.

http://ilivetoday.com The stadium is one of six city sites slated to go solar as part of a 2.5 megawatt project, and is the first city project under the Solar Lancaster program to be underway. The city projects, including City Hall and the City’s performing arts center, are expected to save the city more than $7 million over the next 15 years.

http://ilivetoday.com The City of Lancaster and SolarCity®, a national leader in solar financing, design, installation, monitoring and related services, today announced that Clear Channel Stadium, home to the Lancaster JetHawks, is the first minor league baseball stadium in California to go solar. The 340 kilowatt carport-mounted system is expected to offset close to 100 percent of the stadium’s energy use and save its owners up to $48,000 in the first year of operation.

http://rrexparris.com “The many projects comprising our Solar Lancaster program are creating a number of benefits to our community. Not only are we taking further steps toward our goal of becoming the alternative energy capitol of the world, but we are creating jobs in many of our region’s hardest hit industries,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “Clear Channel Stadium is the first of many City of Lancaster projects that will contribute to a greener City, a greener California and a greener nation.”

Vice Mayor Ron Smith Launches iPhone AppSmartphone App Gives Citizens Better Connection With CityLancaster, CA. December 21, 2010 – Vice Mayor Ron Smith announced today the launch of an iPhone app that will give citizens a better connection with the City and their elected leaders. The app also allows the reporting of graffiti, code enforcement violations, dangerous dogs, and crime tips.

“The City of Lancaster is at the forefront of communications,” said Vice Mayor Ron Smith. “This Smartphone app gives citizens an easy way to stay in touch with the City and provide their input and ideas on City issues.”

Smith partnered with Geoffiti to create the mobile communication application. Geoffiti recently won the prestigious Crystal Eagle Award from the California Downtown Association for a mobile app they developed for the City of Long Beach.

“This is a perfect use of Smartphone technology,” said Ali Reza Kohani, CEO of Geoffiti. “We are excited to work with Ron on this project and make it easier for citizens to communicate with Vice Mayor Smith and the City of Lancaster.”

The new Smartphone app features easy-to-use public safety components. “This app is another tool citizens can use to partner with the Sheriff’s Department to make this community a safer place to live,” said Lt. Don Downton of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

As an example, Vice Mayor Smith showed how a citizen could use the app to take a picture of  graffiti and send it directly in to the City.

The app is named “What do YOU Think?” asking citizens for input on all things concerning the City of Lancaster.  Users can receive information on upcoming agenda items, City events and news, as well as submit their opinions and ideas to the Vice Mayor and the City.

The Smartphone app is currently available on iTunes free of charge, and will soon be available for the Android. The free App can be downloaded here:http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ron-smith/id407758486?mt=8
