Ron Hornaday, Jr. Day Ceremony Airs on Palmdale Ch. 27 for 1st Anniversary

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale will mark the one-year anniversary of Ron Hornaday, Jr. Day with special airing on Palmdale Channel 27 of the ceremony that was held on April 8, 2010 at the Palmdale Auto Mall to honor the NASCAR racing legend who calls Palmdale his hometown.

The ceremony will be re-broadcast on Channel 27 in its entirety Fridays and Saturdays at 2:30 pm and 9:30 pm and on Sundays at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm throughout the month of April.  The ceremony, as well as all of the City’s original programming and live Web casts, may also be viewed on the City’s Web site at <>.

The announcement was made by Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford at the April 6 Palmdale City Council meeting, where the City Council recognized the one year anniversary of Ron Hornaday, Jr. Day with a recap of events and a special “Hornaday Update” by Antelope Valley Press Sports Columnist Brian Golden.

In 2010, the Palmdale City Council proclaimed April 8 as Ron Hornaday, Jr. Day in Palmdale and designated the area around the Palmdale Auto Mall as Ron Hornaday, Jr. Way with a display of colorful street banners bearing his likeness and his famous number “16” car.

The special ceremony, which honored NASCAR racing champion and former Palmdale resident Ron Hornaday, Jr. for his excellence in his sport, attracted numerous fans throughout Southern California and beyond.

Hornaday, known as the “Pride of Palmdale,” is a four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) champion.  He has competed in all of NASCAR’s three elite divisions, but has found a home in the NCWTS and with Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI).

Buy A New Car in Palmdale; Get a $300 AV Mall Gift Certificate FREE!

    Rally Auto Group

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale is bringing back its highly successful and award winning BEST (Business Economic Stimulus) auto stimulus program just in time for the holidays.

“Anyone who buys a new car from the Rally Auto Group will get a $300 Antelope Valley Mall gift card,” said Palmdale’s Economic Development Manager David Walter.

“When we launched our BEST program last year, it was a huge success and a great economic shot in the arm for our City,” said Walter. “It generated sales in excess of $18 million dollars.”

“We wanted to capture the synergy of the addition of Macy’s to all the other fabulous shopping destinations at the Antelope Valley Mall with the upcoming holiday shopping season,” said Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford. “Car shoppers can get any make or model vehicle on the market right here in Palmdale at our Auto Mall, and receive an additional $300 gift card to boot.  There’s been no better time or place to buy a new car then now at Rally Auto Group.”

To receive the gift card, auto purchasers should bring a copy of their sales contract to the City of Palmdale’s economic development office and fill out a simple form. The office is located at 38250 Sierra Highway. Business hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 6 pm.

There will be a limit of one gift card per household.  Purchases from Nov. 24, 2010 on are eligible for the program.  The program will last until the approved funding is depleted. $200,000 has been appropriated for the BEST auto program.  Funding for the Palmdale’s BEST program is being provided from unappropriated reserves in the CRA fund. General Fund monies are not used for the BEST program.

“We continually look for ways to support our businesses in the City of Palmdale,” said City Manager Steve Williams.  “Because it is so important for residents to ‘Shop Palmdale,’ we realized that now was the right time to bring back a highly successful program.”

Dealers at the Palmdale Auto Mall include Rally Auto Group (Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Hyundai) 866.906.9484 , AV KIA, Robertson’s Palmdale Honda, Antelope Valley Nissan, and Antelope Valley Volkswagen. The Palmdale Auto Mall boasts over 20 brands and over 3,000 cars to choose from.

Palmdale’s BEST program won a Silver Award in the Sales Promotion and Events category for shopping centers that are between 750,000 and 999,000 square feet in size category at the 2010 United States Shopping Center MAXI awards held earlier this year.
