Backpacking San Jacinto Mountain on Snowshoes

At Antelope Valley Florist we want to share with our customers our real life adventures around sunny Southern California as we experience the great outdoors. Flowers are wonderful way to show a friend that you care and it doesn’t take a special occasion like Valentines Day to do that.

I had met todd and Slvi Clark , Sierra Club leaders from the Orange County area on a previous hike. The leaders said they were doing a snow camp in January above the Palm Springs area in the San Jacinto Mountains .There were 5 of us hardy souls who rode the  aerial tram up to 9000 feet above sea level last Saturday, we used snowshoes to walk the 3 miles back to the primitive camp site. There was filtered water, and we used a snow  shovel to free the toilet door, so it could be used, Sunday morning we crawled out to 19 degrees and a clear sky. My training helped me with the elevation and exertion, food was great, fellowship always a lot of fun, note to self , next time take a warmer sleeping bag.  Our state is a marvelous place, get out and explore every corner of our area.
